Simultaneous Maxillary and Mandibular Brown Tumors as the First Presentation of Secondary Hyperparathyroidism

چکیده
Brown tumor represents a serious and late bony complications of advanced hyperparathyroidism with a frequency of 1.5–1.75 percent in secondary hyperparathyroidism and 3–4 percent in primary hyperparathyroidism. [1,2] Here we describe an extremely rare case of a 19-year-old male patient with a brown tumor localised in the maxilla and mandibular due to secondary hyperparathyroidism compromising mastication, phonation and social ease of the patient. An early diagnosis and a timely parathyroidectomy in a medically resistant hyperparathyroidism are an optimal option to control the growth of the bony lesion

The brown tumor or osteitis fibrosacystica is a benign bone lesion that caused by hyperparathyroidism. This complication has been decreased by diagnosis and successful treatment of hyperparathyroidism. The brown tumor of hyperparathyroidism results from a metabolic disorder that affects long bones, ribs, and pelvis. The maxillary involvement is rare. Parathyroidectomyis a good choice for patien...

Parathyroid adenoma involving a single parathyroid gland is the underlying cause of 80-85% of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). Skeletal system is significantly affected by PHPT. Brown tumors are known to have affinity for 99mTc-MIBI. We report a rare case of PHPT presenting with diffuse bony pain, high calcium level and significantly elevated alkaline phosphatase level. 99m<...
متن کاملSevere Hyperparathyroidism with Secondary Osteitis Fibrosa Cystica and Brown Tumors Mimicking Bone Metastasis
Introduction: The classical presentation of primary hyperparathyroidism, osteitis fibrosa cystica, has become very rare nowadays. This rarity makes it sometimes misdiagnosed leading to disastrous outcomes. Methods: We present a case of an undiagnosed primary hyperparathyroidism with severe osteitis fibrosa cystica and brown tumors that was first misdiagnosed as having bone metastasis. Conclusio...
